Our quick and easy guide is here to help whether you bought from the Michael Kors ladies' watches catalogue or the Michael Kors men's watches section. All the setting up elements are the same and we will cover:
- How to adjust the time on your Michael Kors watch
- How to change the date on your Michael Kors watch
- How to use the chronograph on a Michael Kors watch
- How to remove strap links from your Michael Kors watch
- How to change the battery of your Michael Kors watch
If you are brand new to the world of Michael Kors watches we suggest you work your way down through this guide in order. If you are already a fan of Michael Kors watches then please feel free to skip ahead to the section you require.
In order to change the time on your Michael Kors watch first ensure your battery is working. With a brand new Michael Kors watch this should be a given but it's worth a double check before you begin. If you need help changing a battery you can skip to "How to change the battery of your Michael Kors watch here".
If you have just bought a Michael Kors watch from us and the battery isn't working please do not hesitate to contact us here.
Once you are confident your battery is in full working order you can begin to adjust the time on your Michael Kors watch.
The following image might help you along with our 3 easy to follow steps.
- Pull the crown (the small knob on the side of the watch face) out from the watch head.
- Turn the crown gently to adjust the hour and minute hands. Set the watch hands to your desired time (We recommend the correct time).
- Push the crown back to the watch head. Ensure the crown is clicked back into the watch head or your Michael Kors watch won't tick and you'll be late all day.
Setting the time on a Michael Kors watch that shows the date as well is different. Please see the section How to change the date on your Michael Kors watch to set the date and time together.
Conveniently a Michael Kors watch might also tell you the date. You will be able to see the date within a small window or subdial on the watch face. This is easy to adjust should it need to be set or reset, the shorter months can cause some minor problems.
Again before you start it is a good idea to recheck that your watch battery is still in full working order. If you need help you can skip to "How to change the battery of your Michael Kors watch".
Changing the date on your Michael Kors watch is achievable in 6 simple steps. Please see the image below for a bit of extra help.
- Pull the crown out from the watch head once (if you pull it out fully you will be changing the time).
- Turn the crown either clockwise or counterclockwise to pick the date of the previous day. Please note the direction that moves the date varies on different watch models so look carefully. By setting the date before the day it actually is, you're giving yourself room to push the hours forward until the day swaps over to the next day. When it does, you'll know your watch is set to AM.
- When setting the date on your Michael Kors watch, make sure to wind it forward in time, otherwise the date may change at midday instead of midnight!
- Pull the crown out further from the watch head.
- Turn the crown counter-clockwise to advance the time and continue until the date changes to the present day.
- Adjust the watch hands until they show the correct time.
- Push the crown fully back into the watch head. Remember to listen for a click or your Michael Kors watch won't tick.
Important Note: Never change the date on your watch between 9PM and 3AM - this is because this is the time when the date gears start moving as the date changes overnight, and you can risk damaging the movement of the watch. If you want to be sure, change the date around 5PM.
If your Michael Kors has two or more sub-dials (smaller faces) within the main dial, congratulations, you have a Michael Kors chronograph watch! A chronograph watch allows you to keep track of additional information apart from what hour and minute it is.
The multiple dials in a Michael Kors watch allow you to time events as a stopwatch. The three dials on a Michael Kors chronograph watch tell you how many seconds are passing within a minute, how many minutes are passing in an hour, and how many hours have passed within 24 hours. Some models may only include two sub-dials for the minute and hour, or the dials will be in different places to the below.
- The far left sub-dial: This is usually the seconds timing indicator. telling you how many seconds are passing in a minute:
- The far-right sub-dial: This indicates hours. When 60 minutes have passed on the minutes sub-dial, the bottom sub-dial hand will move to the one position.
- The lower sub-dial: This is the minutes indicator, telling you how many minutes are passing within an hour.
To use your chronograph function, you need to press the two pushers on either side of the crown (the bit that you pull out to set the time), on the right side of the watch case. Press A (the top pusher) to start and stop the stopwatch and B (the lower pusher) to reset.
NOTE: After 2 hours of continuous running, on some Michael Kors models the chronograph will automatically stop and reset to save the battery.
You can also measure split time:
- Press A to start the stop watch
- Press B while the chronograph is running.
- Press B again to return to the chronograph.
- Press A to finalise timing.
- Press B to reset.
Having a bespoke watch is everyone's dream and with Michael Kors that is possible by removing links from the strap so it will fit you perfectly.
IMPORTANT: Please note, as per our Returns and Refund Policy, you cannot return an item if it has been personalised. This includes bracelet resizing and changing, and any other alterations made to your timepiece.
In order to remove links from your Michael Kors watch you will first need the right tools. Don't worry you don't need anything scary expensive just and the following can be purchased online easily, sometimes as a pack sometimes as individual elements.
You will need a:
- Pin Punch for watch pins
- Watch Hammer (one with a head with a soft side and a metal side)
- Watch band block holder
Before you begin to remove links from your Michael Kors watch we suggest you do this task on a clean flat surface and have somewhere secure to put your watch pins while you are adjusting the links. A small container or plate would work perfectly. Once you are fully prepared you can begin the steps below.
- First you should measure your Michael Kors watch to see how many links you would like to remove. Forget the measuring tape. Simply put your watch on your wrist, close the clasp, and then pinch the watch strap until it is a comfortable fit on your wrist. Count the links that are extra, and so need to be removed.
- Set up the watch on the block holder. Ensure the arrows shown on the links are pointing downward
- When removing links, hold one end of the pin pusher against the pin to be removed. Strike the other end of the pin pusher with the metal side of the watch hammer until the pin slides out. It will slide out in the direction of the arrow on the links. Two pins hold each link to the band, so two pins must be removed per link.
- To reconnect the watch band together position the watch on the block holder with the arrows facing upward.
- Overlap two links so that the holes for each of them connect. Insert pins into the lined up holes to connect the whole watch band. Use the soft side of the hammer to strike the pin down.
- Make sure that all the pins joining the links are secured in place
The final step is to place the Michael Kors watch back on your wrist and wear with pride.
If the sad time has come when your Michael Kors watch battery has finally given up fear not. This event does not mean you need to part with your Michael Kors watch just the battery within it. A replacement battery for a Michael Kors watch will not cost much and prices start as low as £2. Different models of watch take different batteries - always use the watch battery type recommended for your watch. To find out which battery your Michael Kors watch takes, you'll need to open the watch to see the name and model of battery, which should be engraved on the battery itself. Write down the number on the back and either search for the specific battery online, or take it to a jeweller to find the battery. You will also need a watch back opener tool kit for removing the back of your Michael Kors watch which you can easily get it online for pretty cheap.
IMPORTANT: Before you start please note that removing the back of your Michael Kors watch might cause scratching. Please proceed with caution.
IMPORTANT: Replacing the battery in your Michael Kors watch might affect the water resistance of your watch. We do not recommend you change your battery yourself - please go to your local jeweller to ensure that the watch is sealed properly, so it doesn't lose its water-resistance.
You can find more information in our "Guide on how to change your watch battery"
If your watch has a snap case back, please follow the steps below.
- Remove the back of your Michael Kors watch by inserting a knife or a thin pair of tweezers. Look for a raised lip on the back of the watch case, and take care not to scratch your watch. We recommend using plastic tools if you have them.
- Take out the battery carefully. Make a note of which side is facing upwards so you can replace it correctly.
- Replace the battery with a new one. You can usually see the name and model of the battery engraved right into the watch battery. Make sure the watch is now working before proceeding.
- Add the back cover to your watch and close it. Be careful not to lose or damage the rubber ring seal to keep the watch watertight. REMEMBER: The water resistance of your watch has most likely been altered.
You may need to reset the time on your watch, depending on how long it took you to replace the battery. You can jump back to the start of this guide for "How to adjust the time on your Michael Kors watch".
We hope this guide has been helpful in all aspects of setting up your Michael Kors watch. Should you require any further help please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help.
